The PLF is blessed with supporters whose kindness and generosity doesn’t end when they leave Cambodia. In the case of Ale and Gabi, who visited last year, they partnered with friends back home in Italy to have a very unique sort of fund raising event and raised over $3500.

Sergio and Francesca

“Sergio & Francesca from Genoa are among our oldest tango friends back when the tango community was a lot smaller and tightly knit. They had always wanted to help a good cause but wanted to be sure of where the money went. In August, when we were in Cambodia, they had their first daughter, Elena, and when they saw our photos and heard our tales they knew they’d found the right cause. Big-hearted as they are, they decided the best way to celebrate their daughter’s christening would be to ask for donations instead of gifts and to throw a tango party and donate the proceeds to the PLF.  As well working full time, they also teach tango and run their own milonga (a tango dancehall). They are well loved by all their students. So we all gathered at their place last Saturday where I prepared a slideshow and Alessandro gave a speech about the PLF, everyone responded very well and a great time was had by all!”

The funds that were raised from this event will pay the salary  of Dr. Kim, who provides medical care for all the children in the Koh-Ker and Srayang Projects as well as buy 40 bikes for graduating 6th graders.

Fund-raising events such as these are one of the many ways supporters of the PLF family can help raise the funds we need to support our students and their teachers. We send mountains of thanks to  Sergio and Francesca for their generous support and of course to Gabi and Ale, who never stop finding ways to help. Their Razoo page has raised sufficient funds to bring much needed surgical interventions to a child at Koh Ker.
