VOLUNTEER BLOG: Chess, Science, and Football

The past three years, William has joined his family on their annual trip to Siem Reap to volunteer and visit with the PLF. Last year and he was excited to share his love of chess with Tchey School and join the soccer club his older brother helped to start for a special match on the school fields. During this year’s trip he returned to host a chess tournament, demonstrate a series of science experiments, and bring football to the students in Romchek. PLF Students Compete in Mini Olympics

William Stafford, Age 10, Launches Chess Club

My family has been volunteers with the Ponheary Ly Foundation for the last 8 years. Being the youngest in the family, I was left behind in the early years. But in the last two years, I was able to come. Wow, it was finally my turn and I was thrilled! I have watched my older brother and sister do some amazing things, like starting a football team or putting on a drama production. I always heard about what they had done. It was my chance to suggest something that we could bring that would be meaningful as a volunteer. (more…)

2014 Finances are up!

Another year has come to a close and with it come the joys of IRS reporting. The best part of all these spreadsheets is the rare opportunity to let these numbers tell me stories about how we’ve grown, or not,  think about whether or not that growth has been in the right directions,  see where we’ve made mistakes and how they’ve been corrected. Year in Photos

On The Ground – Supporters and Volunteers

Globalteer Games – a Mini Olympics-Type Sporting Event

PLF students joined a group of over 700 students from around Siem Reap who took part in this junior, mini olympics-type event over the weekend.  Run for the second year in a row, it was another resounding success because once again, the students had an absolute ball! (more…)

GET REAL: A Few Thoughts as I Move Back to the U.S.

TEACHER BLOG: My Take on PLF’s New Lego Program

For a long time, the children in Cambodia never knew “what is technology?” Especially the children in the countryside remote areas, they never played the toys or the remote control cars etc. All these things, I and other children never played before. But now at Tchey School we just had a new technology called “Lego Education” that the children in that area can come to play or join with the teacher who has training with a group of people came from National Instruments, which partners with LEGO to make the software for the LEGO WeDo and LEGO MINDSTORMS products.
