Water Safety Course at Tchey

During the summer of 2012, I returned to Cambodia for the third year to volunteer at the Ponheary Ly Foundation (PLF).  I traveled with my close friend, Jamie Stafford, and the rest of his family.  As a group, we would be responsible for helping the foundation across a range of areas.  In previous years, I had volunteered for the PLF in various ways, such as teaching English lessons or playing soccer with Khmer school children.  This year, however, I wanted to do something entirely different.  (more…)

Chey Soccer Team, Year 2

The summer of 2012 was my fourth year as a volunteer for the Ponheary Ly Foundation. Last year, my focus was on establishing the first ever football (soccer) team for Chey School. This year I returned with several objectives in mind: to check progress, review budget and spend for the year, help kick-off a girl’s football team and hold an end of year World Cup type of tournament across the various teams that are now up and running at Chey School. Activities at Tchey School

The Tchey School held their monthly activities on 14 June 2012. This included a soccer match between the Tchey School team and the Banteay Meanchey Team as well as a local Tchey School Khmer reading competition amongst the top 3 students in each of the 5 classes. (more…)

The Victory of Girl Volleyball Team at Angkor High Dorm

In February 2012 the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport celebrated a sporting event for all of the government schools in Siem Reap Province. Competing in the event was a team from the Bamboo Shoot Dormitory, all of whom attend Angkor High School.
