PLF Expands to Canada!

We are thrilled to announce that the Ponheary Ly Foundation Canada is up and running as a registered Canadian charity.  We now have two organizations raising funds for Ponheary’s projects with one common team on the ground pulling it all together.

Let There be Bikes!

Siem Reap has seen a wetter than average monsoon season this year and our streets have been under water for several days. Undeterred, today we inspected and readied 211 bikes that will be awarded on opening day. We’re certain we will not make our October 1 date, but as soon as things dry up a bit, we’ll be ready.  (more…)

Chey art students illustrate a storybook

A children’s book author from Laos asked PLF students to illustrate a story book, and has offered to give a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the book to the Foundation.  In this article, Johnathan Osteen, the main volunteer on the project, recounts his experience.

High school volunteers teach photography at Chey

Caroline Stafford and Aimee Rathle, high school students from London and New Orleans respectively, carried out a photography class with students from Chey school.  In this article, they describe their experience and how they came up with the idea for the class.

Chey initiates English scholarship program

Four boys from Chey School have been selected to participate in a merit-based English scholarship program. Part of the program involved traveling around with an English-speaking family for the length of their stay in order to gain a better understanding of the language and of western culture.  In this article, Jack Reynolds and Jamie Stafford describe the week they spent travelling, collaborating and recreating with the scholarship students.

Tchey students learn music theory with professional Orville Stoeber

Orville Stoeber, a veteran musician who resides in Los Angeles, has come to Siem Reap to provide music lessons to students at Tchey Primary School.

Adam Kalinich teaches week-long math clinic

We would like to thank Adam, a high school senior from Chicago, IL, for providing a week-long math clinic to 11 male and female students from Angkor High School.  All of the participants were alumni from our program at Wat Bo Primary school.

Washing Station at Knar Improving Health

The washing and first aid station at Knar Primary School has been up and running since January, and the number of incidents of sickness has fallen significantly.
