Buy it in Cambodia

Because of the volume of buying we do locally and the fact that a surprising number of things are available here for a very good price, it makes a lot of sense to buy things in Siem Reap rather than bring them from abroad. Supporting the local economy is a good thing!  We shop at Khmer owned businesses in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. You can buy on your own or let us take you to our usual sellers where we get better discounts.

1. Vegetables

The school at Knar gets rations from the World Food Program but the meals consist of rice and more rice. Our student’s massive brains also require protein and vegetables~! Depending on what’s in season, $20-25 will buy about 100 pounds of vegetables to add to breakfast on any given day. That gets 440 children a good helping, important because it might be the only source of fresh vegetables they get that day. Visitors to Siem Reap can also buy cases of fish ($34) to add to the WFP protein ration, which has 27 children sharing a 16 oz can.

2. Restock First Aid Kits

  • Big Rolls of Gauze
  • thermometers
  • band-aids
  • disinfectant
  • anti-fungals
  • triple antibiotic cream
  • children’s paracetemol (tylenol)
  • De-worming medicine
  • latex gloves

3. Bicycles

Every year we award bicycles to graduating 6th graders. This year we need to raise funds for well over 200 bikes. We’ll take you to our bike dealer to see and add to the stockpile. One tricked out used Japanese bike costs $38. If you happen to be here the first week of October, you can see it being awarded.

4. Things for the Computer Labs:

  1. Black Toner Cartridges
  2. Reams of A4 paper
  3. Mousepads & Mice.  A set here is $6
  4. 4gb flash drives (available here but cheaper abroad)
